Diabetic Diarrhoea and Malabsorption

  •               • Poor glycemic control is an important co-factor
  •               • Most patients have autonomic neuropathy
  •               • In some patients diarrhea and malabsorption is attributed to:
  •                
  • – Some DM associated disease should be excluded
  •                            • Celiac Disease
  •                            • SIBO
  •                            • Pancreatic Insufficiency
  • – Diarrhoea may occur due to Acarbose used to treat DM
  • – Fructose, Sorbitol used as poorly absorbed carbohydrate by DM patients may cause diarrhea, bloating
